Southeast
Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo: city beaches, coastal towns and Brazil's largest cities.

The Southeast is made up of four states: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. It is Brazil's most populous region and the usual point of arrival for visitors flying in from abroad.
What kind of trip it offers
- Beach and city. Rio de Janeiro combines city beaches with the country's best-known sights.
- Coastal towns. A few hours from Rio by road are resort towns such as Búzios, with smaller beaches and a slower pace.
- Big city. São Paulo is Brazil's largest city: food, museums and business, with no beach.
- History and hills. The colonial towns of Minas Gerais are inland, far from the sea.
Getting around the region
Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have the country's busiest airports and are linked by frequent flights of about an hour. By road they are roughly 430 km apart. The beach towns on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state are reached by car or bus.
