Búzios is a peninsula about 170 km from Rio de Janeiro, with more than twenty small beaches and a compact centre of restaurants and shops. It is reached by road and is a classic side trip from Rio.

How the peninsula is laid out

  • Centre. Around Rua das Pedras and the waterfront: restaurants, bars and guesthouses with everything within walking distance.
  • Geribá. The longest beach, with waves and a young crowd. A few minutes by car from the centre.
  • João Fernandes. A small, calm bay with guesthouses on the hillside.
  • Ferradura. An almost enclosed cove with no waves, popular with families.
